PHILOSOPHY OF LABORATORY
Continuing in the tradition of the former Human Energy Systems Laboratory, LACH's motto is:
"If it is real, it will be revealed; and if it's fake, we'll find the mistake."
Concerning various controversial questions in consciousness science addressed by LACH and their implications for understanding advances in consciousness, our position is straightforward.
For example, when asked: "Are you trying to prove the existence of X" (X can refer to any controversial research topic within LACH, be it the existence of "world hypotheses," "universal intelligent consciousness," "survival of consciousness" or "other worldly consciousnesses"), our response is simple and to the point:
"Absolutely not: what we are trying to do is give X - if it exists - the opportunity to prove itself."
LACH does make certain assumptions (which can be reframed as universal or meta hypotheses). For example, LACH begins with the premise that consciousness exists and can be investigated scientifically. Moreover, LACH hypothesizes that consciousness is in a dynamic state of change and evolution.
The term evolution is defined broadly and generally here to refer to "developing and unfolding changes over time." It is important to recognize that the word evolution is used by LACH independent of any hypothesized explanations or mechanisms of evolution. Potential mechanisms of evolution include Darwinian, Lamarckian, Self-Organizing, Random, Intelligent, and Intentional Evolution. |
